Customer Review: Classic modern look and silent operation, barebone features
Summary: 3 Stars
Pro: Classic 'less is more' elegant look that has been a favorite for decades. Great readability (but not in the dark). Almost silent movement.
Con:
1) price is inflationary
2) quality significantly decreased with this AB7 model compared with the several models I owned in the same series over the years.
It is not as compact and does not feel as substantially built.
There is no mention of place made on the product or the packaging -- a hint that it is not Germany anymore.
3) The product has only the most bare-bone features: on/off alarm switch on tom and 2 wheels in the back to set up time and alarm. That's it.
- No progressive alarm volume.
- No light or glow-in-the-dark - you'll need to turn the bedside light on.
- No snooze option - pressing alarm on button when ringing used to do the trick, no more.
- No travel alarm lock - be prepared to find the clock's battery spent aimlessly ringing in your bags.

In 1992 Braun introduced the Square Design AB7 Alarm Clock by Dieter Rams and Dietrich Lubs. As with the other Braun AB series alarm clocks, the analog AB7 with its bright yellow sweep second hand has become an icon of modern design. Dieter Rams, born 1932 in Wiesbaden, is the industrial designer most closely associated with the German consumer products company Braun and is regarded as a leader of the Functionalist school of industrial design. The last of his ten rules of design is "Good design is as little design as possible. The compact travel version of this alarm clock (2.8" x 2.75" x 1.4") is made of durable ABS plastic.
